XTB Review: A UAE Trader's Perspective

XTB operates in the UAE through XTB MENA Limited, authorised by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) with reference F006316, Category 3A, licensed 12 Jul 2021. The account is held with a locally regulated entity within the DIFC, not an offshore shell.

The broker was founded in 2002 (Warsaw), is headquartered in Poland, and has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 2016. With over a million clients, it is one of the largest retail brokers in Europe.

The Local Regulatory Picture

The UAE has a three-tier regulatory system. The federal Securities & Commodities Authority (SCA) covers the mainland - formally renamed the Capital Market Authority (CMA) effective 1 Jan 2026. The DFSA regulates within the DIFC free zone, and the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) within the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM).

XTB operates under the DFSA. The oversight is onshore and top-tier; no offshore entity is used for UAE clients. The registration number must match the legal entity on the client agreement, and this can be verified on the DFSA public register. UAE retail clients are onboarded by XTB MENA Limited.

FYI
Offshore brokers may advertise leverage of 1:500 or more, but they are not authorised to operate in the UAE. If something goes wrong, there is no local regulatory body to turn to.

Leverage: The Reality of 1:30

Under DFSA rules, XTB caps retail leverage at 1:30 for major forex pairs. This is aligned with EU standards. By comparison, mainland SCA/CMA caps are reported at ~1:50 on major FX pairs, 1:20 minors/exotics, 1:10 commodities, 1:3 stocks. Offshore brokers marketing to UAE residents advertise far higher (1:500–1:1000+).

With 1:1000 leverage, a 0.1% adverse move wipes out the entire margin. With 1:30, the buffer is much larger. As of the review (2026), verify current caps at dfsa.ae / uaecma.gov.ae.

Spreads and Commissions by Account

XTB offers two main account types.

FeatureStandard AccountPro Account
Spreads (EUR/USD)~0.5–0.9 pipsTighter, raw spreads
CommissionNone (spread-only)Per-lot commission applies
Minimum DepositNo set minimumNo set minimum
Islamic AccountAvailable (swap-free)Available (swap-free)

The Standard account is commission-free: the trader pays the spread. Deposits are free. There is a small withdrawal fee of ~USD/EUR 10 on amounts under ~100, so it is more efficient to withdraw larger sums less frequently.

XTB's real stock and ETF investing feature (0% commission up to EUR 100k per month) is EEA-only. It does not apply to UAE accounts. These assets can be traded as CFDs, but the trader does not own the underlying share.

Trading Platforms and Instruments

The proprietary platform, xStation 5, is available on web, desktop, and mobile. MT4 is additionally available for MENA clients.

Instrument coverage includes over 1,900 instruments:

  • Forex
  • Indices
  • Commodities
  • Stock and ETF CFDs
  • Crypto CFDs

No real (unleveraged) shares are offered for this region.

QUICK TIP

A Reality Check for UAE Clients

The main limitation is the absence of real (unleveraged) shares for this region. Stock CFDs are available, but actual ownership benefits - voting rights or dividend payments - do not apply.

In 2018, XTB's Polish entity was fined by the KNF (the Polish financial regulator) for asymmetric execution practices. This is a legacy caveat; the local UAE entity has been under DFSA oversight since its 2021 licence.

Before committing to any broker, check the SCA/CMA 'Violations and Warnings' page and DFSA alerts. Regulators warn of firms impersonating well-known exchanges and using cold calls, WhatsApp, and social-media promotions.

CAUTION
Be wary of unsolicited messages on WhatsApp or Telegram promising "risk-free" or guaranteed returns. These are common scams. Verify the firm on the official public register before sending funds.

Regulatory edge and local fit

A match if:You value safety and regulatory clarity. You want to trade CFDs on forex, indices, and commodities with competitive spreads and a reliable platform like xStation 5. You need an Islamic (swap-free) account. You trade primarily during the London/NY overlap from 4 PM to 8 PM GST.

A mismatch if:You want to build a portfolio of real, unleveraged stocks and ETFs - XTB's offering in the UAE is CFD-only. You rely on high leverage - the 1:30 cap will feel restrictive.

Getting Started: The First Few Weeks

KYC requires Emirates ID (for residents) or passport (for non-residents/visitors), plus proof of address (UAE utility bill / bank statement / tenancy contract). Verification is usually fast, often within a day. Card deposits land instantly.

Use the demo account to get a feel for xStation 5 and test strategies without risking capital. Start with small positions and make a few withdrawals to test the process. Withdrawing small amounts incurs a fee, so test with a slightly larger amount.
